By Matabo Manala

The South African Rugby Sevens team started off well in their Olympic Seven Rugby tournament when they beat Spain 24-0 and France 26-0 in their encounters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Blitz Bokke started off well in their match against Spain when Cecil Afrika scored two tries and convert the place kicks to get the team leading 14-0 in their nervy first half tie. Later in the second half, Seabelo Senatla and Phillip Snyman had put the team up with their converted tries and place kicks. Unfortunately for Cecil Afrika, he was not able to get his third hat-trick within the match as the Spanish opposition had held him for the remainder of the game. The Blitz Bokke first game had ended with a score of 24-0.

In the second match of the day, the Blitz Bokke had met up with the French sevens team which shockingly beat Australia at a score of 31-14. But to the Blitz Bokke, they were not fased by the French defeating the Australians as they triumphed over them to beat the 26-0. Two tries from Cecil Afrika, one from Dylan Sage and the other from Kyle Brown secured their passage to qualifying for the next round of the Olympic Sevens Rugby. The South African Seven Rugby team next opponents are Australia and they are looking forward to finishing on top of their group.
