Current Trending topic: South Africa has seen an alarming rate of deaths related to the upcoming elections on the 3 August 2016.

Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko has stated at a briefing in parliament this afternoon that he has a task team to help probe political killings

Most political killings are said to be in Kwazulu-natal with 25 politically related incidents – 14 of those being of murder or attempted murder, the only case in the Gauteng Province was of one man being killed at the PTA show grounds.

More than a few community electoral candidates have been murdered in the last few months.

“We are committed to peaceful elections, the nature of deployments will be determined by each area’s circumstance” says Nhleko

Acting police commissioner Khomotso Phalane stated they will deploy 50 480 police officers at polling stations across South Africa on voting day.

Many are unsettled by the attempts of the South African Police Service (SAPS) – the public seems unsure about how protected they will be, come Election Day.

“Two police men will be dispatched to each voting station” Nhleko Added

He also went on to say that they will do all that is necessary to make sure matters are resolved.
