DA says ANC spent millions on pointless adverts

By: Refiloe Phalane

With the elections coming closer and closer the Democratic Alliance says the city of Johannesburg has spend R26 million last year and R62 million in advertisement simply to help African national Congress to win the city in the coming municipal elections the DA says ANC has wasted money in pointless billboards and adverts on radio TV and Newspapers.

Johannesburg mayoral candidates Herman Mashaba told EWN that the ANC campaign is dishonest “They claim this seems to be the normal way of letting people know of their successes, but at the same time they are not letting people know of their failure.’ Mashaba said.

However the city of Johannesburg spokesperson Nthatisi Modingoane says the money that was spent was to deal with the perception in Johannesburg as people don’t know their leaders as there is lack of communication on knowing who does what at the municipality Modingoane adds that the is nothing strange about the money they spent on adverts “The allocation that was made to the communication department was made to make sure that we communicate all programmes for the last term.

Meanwhile Mashaba disagree and says they should tell the whole picture and not only paint the positive and the success that they made they should also paint the negative picture they can highlight the success while people are unemployed and living in a condition that they don’t have service delivery from the government ANC should make their priority straight
