On 09 June 2016, the Western Cape High court chaired by Judge John Hlophe has sentenced the Century City murderer known as Khangayi Sedumedi, with seven life sentences and additional of 40 years direct imprisonment, for raping, kidnapping and murdering multiple of women including a 15 year old girl.
This crimes took place between 2011 to 2015.
According to eNCA, Police arrested Khangayi Sedumedi in 2015, following the discovery of a mass grave with bodies of four women near Cape Town’s Century City railway station.
Sedumedi entered plea and sentencing agreement with the state before he was sentenced.
He pleaded guilty of the 23 counts of crimes such as rape, kidnapping, robbery and murder.
Meanwhile the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the sentencing of Khangayi Sedumedi.
NPA’s spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila told the eNCA that sedumedi also admitted that in certain instances he used a toy gun to force the women into submission and tied them up.
He staid that “at the age of 13 his mother disappeared without a trace. This caused him to be lonely. The cruel crimes he committed against the innocent defenceless women and a 13 year old child made him feel better.” Ntabazalila was quoted saying by the eNCA.
