Imagine living, breathing and eating a brand for a number of years then having to part ways with it. Like giving birth to a baby and giving it up for adoption after years of bonding. Thapelo Mokoena has recently announced that he will be stepping down as the ambassador of the Hunters cider after 9 years.
The partnership first began in 2008 when Mokoena helped launch their Hunters ‘Global Cooling’ campaign. Since then, we’ve seen an undoubtedly healthy relationship between the two parties, with ‘refreshing’ adverts keeping us glued to our screens.
Hunters is a cider produced and distributed by Distell. It’s said to be refreshment like no other-” a real, natural cider”. The Hunters range includes Hunters Dry, Hunters Gold, Extreme and Export.
But who will be the new leading China? Mokoena has been the front man of the #BeTheChina search. A project dedicated to finding the next Hunters face. #BeTheChina is a digital campaign where young males posted a video on social media stating why they think they should be considered. The successful candidates will go through a screen test and an interview. The new face is then believed to launch in July 2016.
“Quite simply, this is the most refreshing job on earth. Hunters will need the successful china for Tv ads, radio ads, print ads, parties, travel and events” Mokoena said.
He added that the china will work with some of South Africa’s hottest creative talent and receive a very refreshing pay cheque.
This is an amazing opportunity for someone to explore and expand their brand. It’s a chance to pave their own way in the entertainment industry and live the good life while doing it.
The brand Hunters has won several awards, including the 2015 SundayTime’s Top Brand award(for the third time).
While it’s a sad exit for Thapelo Mokoena, we are definitely excited for the arrival of the new face and voice.
