Like children waiting to unwrap gifts on a Christmas morning, so are Drake’s fans, anticipating Drake’s new album ‘Views from the 6′. Views (as now called), is the hip hop giant’s fourth studio album and is allegedly named after his home city Toronto.
We once again have a front row access into the “tales of Drake”. The rapper is known for unleashing his feelings and life experiences on his music, from his family to ex-girlfriends and fellow artists. He’s a lyrical genius and an outstanding performer. A class act at recreating memories and making people relate.
In 2013, Drake released the album ‘Nothing Was The Same’ which featured tracks such as From Time, Worst Behaviour and Pound Cake. The album featured the sensational Jhené Aiko, rapper Jay-Z and Sampha. NWTS sold 658,000 copies in its first week of release, placing Drake at the top of the musical food chain. Then, in 2015, the Toronto star released a surprise mixtape ‘If Your Reading This It’s Too Late’, sending him straight to the top of the charts. Notable songs included Energy, Preach and Jungle.
With every Drake’s new album, comes growth. We see how the rapper evolves and also, the changes in his life. Additionally, his music is always inspired by his love for his city, Toronto. It’s where he was born and raised, where he experienced life… and love. Toronto molded him. Speaking about ‘Views’: “It’s something that I’ve been working really hard on, just trying to craft a life sound track for our city [Toronto]” he said.
Views was produced by Drake’s long time friend and producer, Noah “40” Shebib. “When it comes to Drake, my objective is to make the artist the number 1 priority at any cost,” Shebib said.
The album consists of 20 tracks, featuring Hype, With You, Faithful and Hotline Bling as a bonus, which was also a promotional single for Views. The cover was released on April 24, where the rapper is supposedly sitting at the top of the CN Tower. The caption read: “To the city I love and the people in it… Thank you for everything”.
Pop Style and One Dance were released as lead singles, with One Dance shooting to no.3 on Billboard 100.
Intense promoting and advertising were evident on Drake’s social media accounts, having pop up stores giving away goodies in LA, New York City and Miami.
Views from the six is said to be released on April 29.
