The South African Broadcaster, SABC 2 has fired 123 employees who were found guilty following an investigation for medical aid fraud
In 2015, SABC investigated over 200 of their employees for an alleged conspiracy with medical practitioners to embezzle the broadcaster’s medical aid scheme, which is reportedly run by Medscheme.
According to Fin24, SABC launched an investigation then charged 134 staff and after disciplinary process, only 11 were found not guilty of the charges. As a result, 123 staff members of the broadcasters have been dismissed with immediate effect.
In a interview with Fin24, the broadcaster’s spokesperson, Kazier Kganyago said that “For now, this is the end of the investigation because we went through the investigation and the disciplinary process, therefore anything that comes up will be a new matter.”
The broadcaster’s Chief Operating Officer, Hlaudi Motshoeneng said “the SABC remains committed to rooting out corruption and fraud and we take such cases seriously”, reported Fin24.
