The mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille reported that she have been notified in five separate instances of messages that are sent from the email address ‘email@example.com’. This is a scam and not from the CT mayor.
Once the email has been received the recipient is then asked if they would like to receive financial assistance, in order to create more jobs and whether they would like to be a part of the project. Once an agreement is made the recipient is then asked to make a contribution of R5,415.00 to be a part of the “Brics Banks Fundinding.”
De Lille has cautioned the public not to be victims of the scam and for them to not respond to the emails, she said: “I would like to make an appeal for residents to forward these emails to firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can record them and hand them over to the SAPS to assist in their investigation”.
Thus far, 5 separate emails have been reported to my office with the subject line "BRICS Bank Funding."
